Proposed new social BDS tools : By the end of 2010, the ILO and BDS partners aim to have developed, piloted and rolled out at least the following tools for social enterprise development in South Africa:

Introduction to Social Enterprise (ISE) manual and trainers guide. This is a Short 0.5-1 day training tool providing an introduction to social enterprise, with atrainer development programme.

Generate Your Social Business Idea (GYSBI) manual and Trainers Guide : a 3 day training tool, with a trainer development programme.

Generate Your Social Business Plan (GYSBP) manual and Trainers Guide: a 2 day training tool on how to develop a social business plan.

Social Entrepreneur Assessment - included in GYSBI on pages 27-34: An Assessment tool for identifying potential social entrepreneurs based on their personal characteristics.

Social Enterprise Rapid Assessment tool: An assessment tool to identify existing/potential social enterprises and identify needs.

Legal Guide to Social Enterprise : A guide on the legal forms and structures of social enterprises in SA.

Finance Guide to Social Enterprise : A guide on available and suitable finance options for social enterprise in SA.

Case Studies of Social Enterprises: A list of case examples of successful social enterprises in South Africa.

Social Impact Assessment/Measurement tool: A tool for measuring SE impact not yet developed at this stage

Social Business Plan Competition Handbook: A handbook for use by organisers of Social Business Plan Competitions
Recognising the need for this work to be strongly demand-driven and collaborative, the ILO has formed this national Social BDS Working Group (SBDSWG) that will participate in the design and development of these tools during 2010.
